Sex and the City 2 Set Design

Tuesday- June 29, 2010
I have been meaning to post on The Sex & the City set design for some time and am now getting to it. It was fun seeing the movie and not only seeing the fashion that was worn but also the interiors. Carrie's unique sense of style was translated very well into her home. The spaces had classic pieces with punches of color and unique patterns. I personally loved the line in the movie where she said " I'm cheating on fashion with furniture"
I really like the punch of color in the kitchen back splash. It makes for a nice transition from the dining room. I also like the large print on the dining chairs, mixed with the high lacquered dinging table.
A nice shot of the foyer. The chandelier is stunning!
Ahhh... the closet! What a beautiful shot! I think if I had Carrie's wardrobe I could probably live in here!
Love the graphic punch on the headboard fabric.
I always love spotting pieces that I recognize or have used before. I immediately recognized the secretary in the movie. The Hallings Secretary from Hickory Chair has been a favorite of mine for some time. The designer paired it with the Hunt Chair which is another great piece. Overall I loved Carrie's home and the use of pattern & color! Enjoy!

A Neutral Knockout!

Monday- June 28, 2010
Sometimes the most beautiful rooms are the most neutral ones. This room has a wonderful mix of layering neutrals: creams, beige's, browns, & blacks. I especially like the the wood paneled wall. It adds a little drama in the space. The design on the panels is especially unique. This is a neutral knockout in my book!

Industrial Spaces

I really like the idea of living in an industrial space. The contrast between raw hard elements and the softness of upholstery is so beautiful. Check out these lofts they are so chic!

A Charming Porch!

June 22, 2010

I am in the middle of reading a great book for my Book Club and can't stop thinking about it. Because of this I think I am daydreaming about being curled up on this lovely porch reading. I think I could lounge on this sofa for hours with a great book. It is so charming for so many reasons. I really like how the large mirror gives the space some architecture. I think the plants are really great as well! Lastly, I love the layered look of the sisal rug with the zebra hide. Now, if it would only quit raining I might be able to enjoy my porch!

A new use for an old piece!

Monday June 21 2010

I always like to find new uses for items you might already have in your home. The headboard in this picture is a wonderful example of this. In it's previous life it was a bamboo screen probably in a neutral color. Maybe used in the corner or to help divide a space. After a few coats of paint it went from ordinary to taking center stage in this room. The color is great and the graphic design in each section is really unique. Overall I really like this bedroom & it's use of color.

Unique Pieces

Monday June 14, 2010

I like the idea of having a few pieces in your home that are really unique. They can be new, old, or just have a really random story to them. However it is that you acquired them it is these pieces that hold a special memory or create conversation. I have a love for coastal style, so as I was searching for some new inspiration I came across these gorgeous pieces. The coffee table in the first room & light fixtures in the next make these rooms really unique! Wouldn't you love to know the story on how they found them? Perhaps they have been collecting driftwood on the beach for years until they could make this table? Or maybe it was a local artisan who made the light fixtures? Whatever the story is I hope it is a good one! As I design I always love to hear about the special pieces in my clients home. It's these pieces that really make a home unique, & tell the story of their owners.

I'm Loving.....

Friday- June 11, 2010
I'm loving this turquoise chandelier. It is a wonderful way to make a colorful impact in a otherwise neutral room. The shape, simplicity, and proportions are all so beautiful on this fixture.

Graphic Pillows

Tuesday June 8, 2010

I really like to add graphic throw pillows onto a sofa or chair. It really adds a nice punch into the space. This sofa is a wonderful example of doing this. They have used multiple patterns, styles, & textures to pull this together. Pillows are also an easy way to make a change to your room & it costs a lot less than getting a new sofa. So, don't be afraid to add a little graphic punch to your room!

Black & White

Friday- June 3, 2010

Black & White is a color combination I always love. It is a classic look in every style of design. The look in this picture has a cottage feel to it but is so striking!!! The chandelier is quite wonderful, makes me want to go pick some twigs.... I'm sure it isn't quite that easy to make. Enjoy!!
